The trend of recent years continues and more and more Portuguese are betting on the Internet as a vehicle to deliver their IRS statements. This year, in the set of the two delivery phases, they were submitted online nearly 3.2 million Model 3 declarations, that is, close to 540 thousand more declarations than last year.
As shown by the numbers of the Ministry of Finance, the number of forms delivered electronically, on 30 May, represented 69 percent of the total declarations received, which adds up to a 20 percent increase in the number of forms delivered over the Internet.
In contrast, the delivery of paper declarations decreased by 20 per cent, since 359,500 fewer prints were delivered through the traditional process.
In a press release, Finance explains that this increase reflects the «effort of the Directorate-General for Taxes to simplify procedures for complying with tax obligations», including the «deepening of the pre-completion of the Model 3 declaration», which came simplify compliance with the declaration delivery process for those who have opted for electronic means.
Finally, the same ministry says that it expects, by the end of this year, to receive another 374 thousand declarations through the Internet, which will make the percentage of Model 3 forms delivered through this route represent 71 percent of the total of the declarations received.
