250 thousand e-school laptops at the start of the academic year

New generation of Magalhães will have XL version

At the beginning of the next school year, 250 thousand new laptops are available for delivery, within the scope of the e-school program. Isabel Alçada, Minister of Education, confirmed today at the press conference that succeeds the Council of Ministers that «everything is already underway and at the beginning of the academic year the computers will be distributed».

The topic was part of the agenda of the weekly government meeting today, where the resolution establishing the schedule and the amounts of charges to be borne with the purchase of portable computers, under the program, was approved.

As explained by the communiqué of the Council of Ministers, the diploma also establishes the «source of financing for the charges to be borne with the execution of contracts for the purchase of 250,000 ultralight portable computers». This also includes expenses with installation and related services.

It should be remembered that the continuity of the e-school program for a second edition was conditioned to the holding of a public tender to choose the supply of the laptop, a procedure that did not exist in the first phase of the program.

The procedure, which only allowed the supply of equipment to be awarded in April, delayed the process and led to the delivery of the equipment that should have been available in the last academic year for the 2010-2011 academic year.
