Group that manages NFC technologies approves new standard for wireless charging

O NFC Forum, group charged with establishing global standards related to communication technologies by proximity field (near field communication, or NFC), announced the adoption of a new wireless charging standard at a power of up to 1W, called Wireless Charging Specification (WLC). At the same time, gadgets equipped with the technology could also communicate.

Although it doesn't seem like much, 1W is enough to successfully charge a smartwatch or wireless headphones and, as most smartphones already come with NFC, it would be at least convenient for manufacturers to adopt this type of bilateral charging. In addition to smartphones, other devices equipped with NFC are also compatible with the new standard, such as chargers, PCs, tablets and game controllers.

In addition to Apple, a Sony The Google they are also sponsors of the NFC Forum; already a Samsung only one main member of the group. The South Korean giant has even presented a type of bilateral charging called Wireless Powershare (based on the Qi standard) compatible with the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Buds headsets; The Huawei introduced a similar feature in Mate 20 Pro however, none of these devices use NFC technology for bilateral charging.

Apple planned supposedly introduce this technology in iPhones 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max (even they have the specifications for this), but the appeal had been canceled last minute who knows the approval of the new standard on d another incentive for the deployment of this technology in the future.
