Instagram tests Nametags, a QR Code feature that makes it easy to follow profiles | Social networks

Instagram is testing a new feature called Nametags, which seeks to make it easier for users to follow each other's profiles. Through the generation of QR Codes, the novelty would simplify the visual promotion of social network accounts by allowing to serve someone just by scanning an image with the cell phone camera. In addition, the function would make it more practical to advertise people in other social media, printed posters or even merchandise, in the case of companies.

The functionality was spotted by the TechCrunch website, which received confirmation from an Instagram representative that the social network is testing the feature. The customizable tool and the Nametag editor access icon will, in principle, be located on the user's profile page.

Also according to TechCrunch, it is possible to choose between a purple background or a pattern of emojis chosen by the person. There is also the option of replacing the template designs with a selfie with an augmented reality filter. The Instagram username appears in the center of the image, below the social network icon.

There is still no information on when and if, in fact, Instagram will implement the Nametags in the stable version of the application. For now, only people with access to the platform tests can create, share or scan the tags. It is worth remembering that the feature is already an old acquaintance of Snapchat users, who launched Snapcodes in January 2015 with the same functionality. In April 2017, it was Facebook Messenger's turn to receive a similar feature.
