ICQ launched a new version of the pioneering instant messaging software, which has been completely reformulated, gaining a new interface and visual identity. The app remains compatible with several operating systems, such as Linux, Windows and macOS in versions for PC, and Android and iPhone (iOS) for versions in mobile. The new application was called ICQ New and promises to work even on bad Internet connections.

The comparison between the two platforms brought some similarities and highlighted the main differences of the messengers. ICQ New includes audio transcription, groups with more than 25 thousand members and video calls with more than 30 participants, in addition to the presence of buttons on the platform and the automatic synchronization of messages. There is also no limit for sending images and photos can be sent without compression, that is, without losing quality.

In WhatsApp, the limits of files sent and message forwarding have been significantly reduced over the years, mainly as a way to combat fake news. In addition, the platform does not have differentiated features such as audio transcription and buttons. Also, WhatsApp groups can have a maximum of 256 members and, until this month, only four members were allowed on video calls, the limit was increased to eight.

2. Message forwarding limit

As a way to combat the spread and sharing of fake news on the platform, WhatsApp has further limited the number of times a viral message can be forwarded, right at the beginning of the month. Now, for messages routed frequently, that is, more than five times, the content can only be forwarded to one contact at a time. The messenger later announced that there was a 70% reduction in viral content sharing.

3. Increase in the number of people on video calls

WhatsApp now allows you to make video calls with up to eight people. The change was announced on the 24th and started to be available a few days later, available in the most updated version of the app for Android and iPhone (iOS).

The number of users in video calls was restricted to four participants, and it was necessary to make a call with one person, initially, to add more contacts. Now, just create a group, add the desired participants and tap on the camera icon located on the top bar of the device.

4. Block groups on WhatsApp

Another highlight of TechTudo in April it was the list with three simple solutions to block groups in the messenger. There is no specific function for blocking, but there are some ways that can be used by those who can not stand to be invited to groups in which they do not want to participate.

An option includes turning off group notifications and silencing the group for eight hours, a week or even a year. Another option is to block group administrators so that it is not possible for them to add you again. The last alternative is to modify the account's privacy settings, defining who are the users who can add you to groups.

5. Games to play on WhatsApp

It is also possible to play with interactive games on the messenger with emojis, stickers and templates. During the isolation period against Covid-19, games can represent a way of interacting with friends and being distracted. The games vary: some can be made within the platform itself, such as Uno, Jogo da Velha and Forca, requiring friends to download only one pack of stickers.

Other options involve sites like Quizur, to create quizzes like "quiz about me" and count points from friends about what they know about you. There is also the possibility to use apps that offer different templates, such as Canva, to participate in popular Instagram games and post on the Status function.
