After months of legal battles against IBM, Mark Papermaster can finally assume his role as senior vice president of the device hardware engineering department at Apple, where he will lead groups of hardware engineers for Apple's iPod and iPhone from April 24th.

According to the announcement made today by Apple on its website, "the dispute between Papermaster and IBM has been resolved."

Apple had hired the executive in October last year, but due to the lawsuit filed by IBM, in which he alleged that he has information that could harm the company, Papermaster was slow to take up his new role. At the time, Judge Kenneth Karas, of New York, forced him to cancel his contract until subsequent court orders.

The executive has 25 years of experience in products and technology, and was recently vice president of IBM. Mark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont. Currently, he is also a member of the Council of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas.
