New SDK for iPhone firmware 2.2.1 is now available

As expected, a few hours after making iPhone OS 2.2.1 available for download, Apple also released the new version of its SDK (Software Development Kit) already available on the iPhone Dev Center.

The current build the 9M2621a and it is heavier than the previous one: 1.7GB.

This new version of the iPhone SDK is an update and features several bugfixes. New optional GCC and LLVM compilers have been included, an updated project assistant, a simplified taskbar and security improvements.

According to the developers, the news is the same as in the previous version:

  • Support for targeting platforms other than Mac OS X, including the iPhone OS SDK.
  • Optional GCC 4.2 & LLVM GCC 4.2 compilers for use in the Mac OS X 10.5 SDK.
  • Wizards for creating new projects, targets and updated source files.
  • The toolbar uses a single menu for choosing platform, target and debug/ release.
  • Integrated SCM support now works with Subversion 1.5.

The new SDK requires Mac OS X 10.5.5 or higher and is available for download free of charge to registered developers.
