Launch was held today (06) in South Korea; announced as a "top of the line for the masses", LG Velvet bets the brand after years of low sales
THE LG today (06), in South Korea, launched the launch of the Velvet, the smartphone that marks a new phase of the company in the mobile segment. According to the manufacturer, despite having an intermediate processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765, the LG Velvet it has plenty of performance, in addition to sophisticated cameras, design and display. In its own words, a ?top of the line for the masses?.
Although it has only just been made official, the LG Velvet it had already shown up in some of the products advertised by the brand and even leaked to the specialized media. From the beginning, the point that most caught the attention of the model was its design, which represents a new bet by the Korean in the mobile sector. If we remember that for years LG has been suffering losses with the low sales of its phones, the Velvet comes in good time to embark on the wave of 5G.
Confirming the flood of leaks regarding the model, the LG Velvet reach stores with the chip Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, a very competent intermediary. Under the hood, the CPU has eight cores, two of them running at 2.4 and 2.2GHz, and six low energy cores, running at 1.8GHz, with 8GB RAM.
On the screen, the LG Velvet brings a P-OLED panel of 6.8 inches, Full HD + resolution (2460 × 1080), HDR10 and 21: 9 aspect ratio the same narrow side format and ?stretched? length as Motorola One Vision and the Sony Xperia most recent. Despite representing a drastic change in the design adopted by LG, the model also has support for LG Dual-Screen, the cover that adds a second screen to the phone and that we saw on the LG G8X ThinQ, and a stylus stylus, remembering that both will be sold separately.
With three rear lenses, the device features a main camera with 48 megapixels and opening f/1.8. As seen in other models, it uses every four pixels of the sensor as one and produces 12 megapixel images in standard mode. Called Pixel-Binning, this technology has appeared on several devices in 2020 and allows the sensor to capture more light, since each pixel starts to act as an e quadruples its size, making it much more sensitive to light.
Secondary cameras, on the other hand, are a ultra-wide 8 megapixel, with aperture f/2.2 and up to 120 angulation, and a depth sensor of 5 megapixels, whose objective is only to improve the accuracy of portrait mode on the main camera. The front camera has 16 megapixels, aperture f/1.9 and stays on notch located at the top screen.
The other specifications of the LG Velvet prove that it is not intended to be top of the line in the literal sense of the word, as it brings a good (but not surprising) battery 4,300mAh, with support for chargers up to 30W (wired) and 10W (wireless); fingerprint reader under the screen; 128GB of internal memory; connectivity 4G and 5G (including mmWave and sub-6GHz); Android 10; support for microSD cards up to 2TB and certification IP68 against water and dust;
'Smooth as velvet'
As explained above, not today that LG faces losses in its mobile division, which makes Velvet a hope for the company. About the new name, LG had also been questioned for months if it intended to end the G line, which was confirmed after the company communicated South Korean operators that their next line tops (from Velvet) would have names focused ?on the product?s design or special features?.
Considering this information, it is very likely that ?Velvet? (or ?velvet?, in Portuguese) is based on the design, since the device striates the look that should appear in the next models of the brand, called 3D Arc. According to LG, the premise that, looking at the device from the bottom end, it appears to have a oval shape, similar to an ellipse.
Other design features that make the launch quite different from previous LGs sharp curvature on the sides of the display, something that Samsung abandoned in the S20 line and many other manufacturers adopted this year, in addition to the layout of the cameras, which in the model were made to look like drops falling on the back cover.
Whatever the reason for the name, however, 'Velvet' must simply be sounds better than ?G8X ThinQ?. In addition to often being compared to a algebra problem, the previous nomenclature made the LG line a little confusing.
As for the special features presented by the model, several of them are intended for sound: in addition to maintaining the headphone jack and offering stereo sound, the ?Voice Out of Focus?Allows the microphone to isolate and remove background noise in a video recording, already the?ASMR', As the name says, calibrates the microphone to capture whispers, ideal for recording videos of that genre.
Did the name come, then? Voice of 'Velvet'? Anyway, we'll never know.
Price and availability
Scheduled to reach South Korean stores in 15th May, the LG Velvet will be launched in the colors Aurora White (white), Aurora Green (Green), Aurora Gray (Gray) and in the launch color Illusion Sunset (pink-orange), more reflective than the others. For 1, the device costs about $ 730 (or R $ 4,172.00 in direct conversion). Considering the expression ?top of the line for the masses? and the hardware of the device itself, it is difficult to know whether the public will be convinced by the price.
Although the launch is only confirmed for the Asian market, the Velvet is an important model for LG and is expected to reach more countries soon. The device has been registered Anatel a few days ago and therefore your chances of reaching the Brazil they are also big.
