US and UK warn of cyber spies seeking information about COVID-19

The number of cyber attacks recorded worldwide has increased exponentially since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Now, an investigation by the United Kingdom's National Cyber ??Security Center (NCSC) and the United States Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) claims that there are groups of international computer species trying to steal information about COVID-19.

The entities indicate in a statement that they have investigated several recent cybersecurity incidents that have targeted pharmaceutical companies, health research organizations and universities.

Although they have identified a high level of activity on the part of hackers, sources from the NCSC said the BBC has not yet had any information theft. Cybersecurity entities have not indicated the origin of the computer species, however, it is believed that they may come from China, Russia or Iran.

NCSC and CISA alert health and research organizations in the area to one of the techniques most frequently used by hackers: password spraying. In it, cybercriminals try to use common passwords to compromise all accounts that use credentials.

Cybersecurity agencies indicate that they will continue to investigate activities related to mass password spraying campaigns. Both NCSC and CISA expect the number of computer species looking for information on COVID-19 to increase. Thus, they recommend extra caution and care to health and research organizations in the area.
