Not the first in Brazil, ok, but we can already check out some of the new Mac Pro thanks to a user of the forums MacRumors, which received its new machine within the deadline stipulated by Apple in its launch. The pussy was configured online by him with two Xeon processors quad-core 2.93GHz, 6GB of RAM and an ATI Radeon 4870 GPU with 512MB of memory.
The first benchmark tests of the machine, obtained using GeekBench 2, were the height of what was expected with the adoption of Nehalem chips. She scored 17,665 points, which placed her as the best tested through the application – Sun Fire X4450, from Sun Microsystems, was the former leader. Even the previous top-of-the-line model of the Mac Pro (two Xeon quad-core 3.2GHz) ate dust for the new one: the highest score made by him was 11,030.
The performance gains of the new Mac Pro are attributed to the many advances that its new Xeon processors bring, which are not yet used by any other workstation in the industry. In another case reported by a user who set up a machine with two chips quad-core 2.26GHz, the overall score on GeekBench exceeded 13,000 points. Furthermore, theTesselator compiled a general table with the performance of all models of the new Mac Pro, based on benchmarks obtained through Cinebench:
It is possible to conclude that the speed of the chips still counts a lot in the general performance of these new processors. Comparing the new Mac Pro octo-core 2.26GHz with the previous 2.8GHz, there is a considerable loss in performing tasks without Hyper-threading. Depending on your needs, buying a machine with just one high-speed Xeon processor is worth much more than with two low-speed ones. Projecting the price of the 17-inch MacBook Pro here in Brazil, it is good to remember that it is still worth betting on a good configuration of the previous model, instead of waiting for the new one.
