Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ offers 35% faster charging for smartphones

Quick Charge 3+ promises to charge 50% of the smartphone battery in 15 minutes, offering faster and more efficient charging more accessible to the public

The Achilles heel of most smartphones remains the durability of drums. So much so that we are even used to charging the devices two to three times in the same day. But Qualcomm launched this week the Quick Charge 3+, which promises to bring fast charging to more modest and affordable models of smartphones.

New technology offers charging 35% faster – Loading 50% battery in 15 minutes – and heating up 9C less, in relation to its predecessors, according to Qualcomm.

The first processors from Qualcomm that are compatible with the new technology Quick Charge 3+ only the Snapdragon 765 and 765G. O 765, for example, equips the intermediate model of Motorola's new Edge line. But this shows that the new technology, for now, is compatible with processors that equip models closer to the top of the line – that have a processor Snapdragon 865 – than the more modest.

Even processors Snapdragon 765 and 765G are also compatible with technology Quick Charge 4+, launched in 2017 and aimed at premium smartphone models. Face the Quick Charge 3+ as a Quick Charge 4+ for more modest smartphones.

The real advantage of Quick Charge 3+, in the sense of cost-benefit, should appear in the coming months. This is because it is expected that Qualcomm implement the new technology to more models of its intermediate processors.

The expectation that smartphones equipped with these processors have optimized fast loading, compared to the Quick Charge 2.0 and 3.0, but without the increase in the costs of implementing the new technology. That would be the biggest advantage of Quick Charge 3+: democratize advanced fast charging technology.

The main novelty in processors Snapdragon 765 and 765G, announced by Qualcomm in December 2019, was the promise to bring the best 5G experience to the public, in a more accessible way.

The new generation, which came to replace the versions Snapdragon 730 and 730G, brought considerable improvements in performance, guaranteeing a "more premium" experience in intermediate smartphones. What you need to know: according to Qualcomm, this increase resulted in a performance greater than 20%, when compared to its predecessors.

With a focus on artificial intelligence, processors accompany the Qualcomm Hexagon 696, a neural processing network that, when running together with the CPU and GPU, makes the Snapdragon 765 get up to 5.6 trillion tasks per second.
