FCT opens a new phase of applications for RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 with a support line of 2 million euros

After announcing the 66 projects chosen for the first phase of RESEARCH 4 COVID-19, the Foundation for Science and Technology opened the period for submitting applications for the second edition of the program. The submission of new proposals takes place until 5 pm of the next 15 May, with the financing of each project reaching 40 thousand euros.

Altogether, the support limit for the second phase of the RESEARCH 4 COVID-19 program is 2 million euros, which is financed by national funds through the FCT budget. In order to be included in the initiative, projects will have to comply with some requirements and applications must be submitted by filling out a form.

In a statement, FCT states that the support directed to R&D units of higher education institutions and their institutes, state laboratories and other public research institutions, scientific societies or scientific non-profit associations, public or private non-profit institutions .

FCT stresses that, in order to be considered for funding, candidate R&D projects and initiatives will have to focus on certain areas. Among them are new prevention tools, therapeutic development, diagnostic methods or clinical and epidemiological studies.

In addition, R&D activities that include a socio-cultural component and actions to promote a society with the capacity to face the current context, especially in the older population and in groups at higher risk, are also included.

Recently, FCT also announced the DOCTORATES4 COVID-19 contest in order to stimulate the training of scientists and virology specialists in Portugal.

DOCTORATES4 COVID-19 has 50 doctoral grants for researchers and national experts in virology science. With the application period open between April 8 and May 14, the scholarships awarded are intended for research activities carried out in higher education institutions, research and development units, associated and collaborative laboratories.
