Launched last year, the Philips UpBeat SHB2505 the company's entry model. Check out how he did in this review
Pioneer in audio devices, the Philips launched last year the UpBeat SHB2505. It is a headset truly wireless (truly wireless, in free translation), which the company is currently betting. This model can well meet the needs of millennials, who look for headphones for everyday life, that are cheap, but without giving up on sound quality.
And so the Philips UpBeat SHB2505, which still guarantees convenience and connectivity. It is worth noting that this is not an ideal model for audio professionals, and Philips makes this very clear in the specifications. If you are looking for your first wireless headset, it is worth knowing the model presented here.
Design and construction
O UpBeat SHB2505 a light, small device that fits in the palm of your hand. But if you take beauty into account, you can ignore that. The devices do not bring a premium product look (which is understandable by the proposal). In construction, it is possible to note that the Philips used a lot of plastic in all areas of the phone and there is a rubber cover that can be removed without much complexity.
In this coverage, the Philips introduced a kind of hook that can get stuck in the ear preventing the device from falling. In our test, however, we realized that this hook can be annoying and create a little pain, especially after hours of use. Fortunately, if necessary, you can remove it and use the handset without this protection. Still, it is important to note that this discomfort is very specific and does not mean that it will be noticeable to all consumers.
By the way, the Philips UpBeat SHB2505 comes with silicone tips in three sizes (small, medium and large). Choosing the ideal one for your ear, stability is guaranteed. When making the exchange, you may have some difficulty, but with a little bit, it fits perfectly.
Buds have a circular connectivity button with the name Philips in the middle. This same button has a blue and white LED that helps when connecting it.
In general, the simple finish, which shows that the company wanted to bet mainly on practicality and sound results.
O Philips UpBeat SHB2505 it does not disappoint in sound quality, and mid, bass and treble are guaranteed without much exaggeration. The earphones have 6mm neodymium drivers, so give it a try now to get an idea of ??what it delivers. It brings configurations aimed at serving a varied audience that does not require as much of a headset.
The bass is very punctual and does not bring that feeling of a powerful speaker in the ears. The mediums are well defined, while the highs may not bring as much shine in some songs. Communication between handset and handset is done separately: the connected device sends the signal to each side of the Philips UpBeat SHB2505, which helps not to compromise the quality of the audio.
The microphone UpBeat SHB2505 reasonable. When making calls, the quality was well compromised and if you are in a place with a lot of noise, we recommend using the smartphone without the headphones. Audio gets even worse when using messaging apps, like Whatsapp it's the Telegram. When sending the voice message, the impression was that the person was in a bathroom and the audio was also very low. At least there are no echoes that can interfere with communication.
The battery UpBeat SHB2505 it may disappoint the user a little, as it was not designed to last all day. So, if you are looking for a headset for the whole day, it is worth considering this question. The autonomy of the model of Philips it's around 3 hours. But, on the other hand, there is the transport / charging case that ensures an additional 9 hours of duration, thus totaling 12 hours. Unfortunately, there is no quick charge feature.
O SHB2505 has similar autonomy to that of the Xiaomi Redmi Airdots – which makes it very clear that these models are ideal to use between the way home to work, to go to college and watch series and movies. Still, we recommend leaving the house without taking the case and the USB cable. To control consumption, in the box there are blue LEDs that help you know when to charge.
Regarding the case of Philips UpBeat SHB2505, the box brings some construction features seen in the headphones. You will not find it very difficult to take it to the street, since the case is very light and medium in size (neither too big nor too small). Even with the UpBeat SHB2505 saved, the case does not become heavy.
The lid, which has a magnetic closure, has a smooth opening and, therefore, becomes fragile. On the front, there are LEDs so you can follow the charging of the headphones.
Connectivity is one of the main highlights of the Philips UpBeat SHB2505. In our tests, we were able to connect it very easily on several devices (notebook, iPad, iPhone) and the great driver of this good connection, of course, Bluetooth 5.0.
For day-to-day use, the handset successfully worked on various content such as music streaming, radio, podcasts and Netflix. Work with Philips UpBeat SHB2505 very pleasant. Despite the quarantine, which prevented us from doing a test on the street, it was possible to see how it works with some external noise, when we went to the window, for example. Isolation is not entirely the strength of this model. Even listening to music, it was possible to perceive some external sounds, such as dog barking, TV on and other low noises.
With regard to reach, the Philips guarantees at ten meters connection. In our assessment, the model began to lose contact with the cell phone at a distance of about seven meters with several walls as a lock, causing some failures (such as only one side working and, sometimes, neither).
A very cool point is your work with virtual assistants, such as Crab it's the Google Assistant. During the period that we are left with Philips UpBeat SHB2505, we use the assistant of the Apple and with just two taps on the button it is possible to activate it (the command is the same for Google Assistant). With this, you will be able to make calls, send messages and use other help and entertainment commands to the user. Unfortunately, there is no dedicated application to take advantage of other settings.
Last but not least, the resource we enjoy most in the Philips UpBeat SHB2505: after paired for the first time, the headphones will always connect to your device. You just need to open the charging case and ready, connected headphones. This function, in fact, is very interesting, as it saves a lot of time and you can already enjoy your music.
- Play / Pause: press the button once;
- Change music: press and hold for two seconds;
- Control volume: only by the paired device (directly on the cell phone, tablet, notebook);
- On off: to connect the headphones, just take them out of the case. To hang up, you just need to put them back in the box.
O Philips UpBeat SHB2505 a headset for those who are now arriving in the world of wireless headphones. The model delivers what you need in the right measure: practicality, good connectivity, sound quality and great value for money. The battery, however, can disappoint a little if you want to use it for a long time outside the case. In short, for you who want to acquire a companion for everyday life (use in public transport, office, to walk, or simply to use at home), it is worth investing in the device Philips.
O SHB2505 one truly wireless with a very attractive price, it is not as cheap as the Redmi Airdots, which has some similar specifications, but you can find it for less than R $ 300. A piece of advice: some stores are selling the UpBeat SHB2505 for more than R $ 400 – a very high price for the model – then be sure to compare prices.
