Google presented news for Maps during the Google I / O congress, in the United States. The application promises to be smarter with the help of augmented reality, indicating routes with the help of the cell phone camera. Another promise is in the recommendations, with personalized tips, including outdoor activities close to the user.
According to Google, the resources will be released to all Android and iPhone (iOS) users "in the coming months". Check out the details of the next version of Google Maps below.

The augmented reality of Google Maps is one of the most awaited features. The company demonstrated how users can point their cell phones to the street and know, in real time, which direction to take based on the image captured by the camera. In this view mode, the app also takes the opportunity to show directions to restaurants and other important places in view.
Google says it uses a combination of camera, GPS and the Street View feature to create the experience. The technology is called VPS (English acronym for Visual Positioning System), and is able to estimate the user's position and orientation more accurately, with image tracking.

Much of the changes in Maps are focused on the new "For You" tab. The application promises to be more personal, with recommendations for places to visit, lists to follow and a series of information from specialized websites, such as selections of the best restaurants in the vicinity.
Google says it will be possible, for example, to follow a neighborhood or type of food and get automated recommendations, according to your personal taste. In a trip, the user will be able to create a kind of accompaniment of places to visit, crossing the list of what has already been visited.
Inside the "For you" tab, the highlight is the function match, which takes into account the user's preferences when recommending establishments. Google mentioned that restaurants that have the same review score are not always indicated for the same people. The idea is that, as with relationship apps, Maps periodically shows a location recommendation according to your tastes and preferences.
Restaurants, bars and other establishments will have a stamp with a percentage of Match according to the review history and other attributes of the user. Therefore, an establishment with maximum score, depending on the circumstances, will not be recommended for you.

With a vertical swipe in the Explore menu, Maps displays a new feed with relevant information about places and activities that happen around you. The section features redesigned design and more useful information than the current version of the app.
As a social network, Maps also promises to show places where people frequently meet to practice physical activities, for example, among other events that take place outside of commercial establishments.
The proof that Maps is more social is the function of voting, which allows you to select locations and convert them into an online poll to submit to friends. It will be possible, for example, to book bars for the next happy hour, gather all the items on a personalized page and then send a link via WhatsApp to find out the opinion of colleagues. The method looks like Google Photos media sharing.
