Iomega updates eGo portable drives, now colored

This morning Iomega announced a new line of USB eGo portable hard drives, originally released in September last year. The products are now available in four different colors and offer up to 500GB of capacity.

The 2.5-inch drives (5,400RPM) come in anodized aluminum cases that are only 16 millimeters thick. They weigh 200 grams, but still incorporate the technology Drop Guard, from Iomega, which aims to protect data against unexpected drops of up to 1.3 meters in height.

The annoyance is that all eGo models require Y-cables (included in the packages), since a single USB port cannot provide enough power to power them. They are compatible with both Macs and PCs.

The model Ruby Red, 250GB, costs $ 85; the versions Ruby Red, Midnight Blue and Silver, all with 320GB, cost US $ 95; already Ruby Red 500GB costs $ 135; finally, the BlackBelt 500GB, which only hits the market in June, has a suggested retail price of $ 140. Starting next month, the line will gain models with alternative interfaces, including even an eSATA version.
