YouTube announced on Thursday (21) new ways of monetizing channels in addition to advertisements. The main way to earn money from the video site is Channel Memberships, which allows creators to charge a monthly fee of $ 4.99 (approximately $ 18) to subscribers, who will have access to exclusive content, such as videos, posts, live streams and even emojis.

The other novelties are Merchandise, through which it will be possible to sell products directly from the channel, and Premieres, through which channel owners will be able to launch debut videos to "pump" their posts, with a live chat to interact with fans . The latter functionality will be released for channels with more than 10,000 subscribers by the end of the year, while subscriptions and merchandising will be available for those with 100,000 followers.

Channel Memberships inspired by "Sponsorships", a resource already available to a small group of content creators on YouTube. As mentioned earlier, the new feature will allow channel subscribers to pay a $ 4.99 per month fee to access exclusive items, which will be determined by the creator himself.

The contents may have stamps to identify more active members, emojis, photos, videos, live streams or any other type of creation. The functionality will arrive in the coming months for qualified channels with more than 100 thousand subscribers. In the ad, made in English by YouTube product director Neal Mohan, there is no indication of what the tool's name will be in Portuguese.

Merchandise will make it possible to sell items such as t-shirts, mugs or makeup directly from the channel. Developed in conjunction with Teespring, an e-commerce company, the tool will display products under the video, already at a price. Until now, creators needed to post the link to their personal stores in the video description.

The feature is being released immediately to creators in the United States with more than 100,000 subscribers. The company has not made it clear whether it will expand to other locations, and has only said that it intends to "bring even more partners and merchandising creators soon".

Inspired by the "Community" tab, the Premieres function will allow creators to display pre-recorded videos in a live stream from a public landing page, in which there is a chat to interact with fans. The idea is to release a sample of a future video to "pump" your visualization, also bringing a reminder button so that the viewer does not lose the production.

The feature is directly linked to monetization because it allows having Super Chats in all uploads. Before, the tool that allows the user to pay to have their comment posted on live streams was only available on live streams. It is the most directly focused on small channels, being announced for accounts that reach 10,000 subscribers by the end of the year.

The new forms of monetization come after a lot of complaints from creators with the changes implemented by YouTube in February. The site has changed the form of payments for ads, making it harder to earn money, especially for small channels.
