NASA supercomputer is the latest booster in the fight against COVID-19

The NASA supermachine placed at the service of the fight against COVID-19, through the new COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium, usually executes climate models, with the objective of predicting the future of the Earth in this sense.

The forecasting capacity of the supercomputer is currently reserved for the virus that has already infected more than 345,000 people worldwide, killed at least 15,000 and keeps over a billion at home.

"I am proud that NASA is lending its supercomputing expertise to help in the global fight against COVID-19," shared US space agency administrator Jim Bridenstine on his Twitter account.

NASA thus joins the new consortium announced by the US Government, which also includes scientific laboratories, universities and companies such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.

IBM is another of the technological giants that put the power of its super computers to the service of the fight against the new coronavirus, through the COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium. Before that, it had already been announced that one of its supermachines was behind an investigation that identified genetic material that the virus releases in the human body, and that could be responsible for the contagion.
