THE Royal College of Art announced on Thursday (25/5) that the newest chancellor of the institution will be known to us Jony Ive, Apple design chief.
RCA is a university focused on postgraduate studies, founded in 1837. Located in London, it has about 900 students and was once considered the best institution for art and design in the world.
We are delighted to welcome Sir Jony Ive as our new chancellor. it is a great honor to have a world leader in design with us, who has consistently produced innovative and commercially successful technology and design. As chancellor, Jony embodies RCA's ideals of technology and design excellence, inspiring students and staff, and empowering us to educate the next generation of artists and world leaders in design.
Paul Thompson, dean of the Royal College of Art.
Ive also gave a statement:
I am very happy to formalize my relationship with RCA, given the profound influence that the institution has had on so many artists and designers that I admire. Our design team includes many students from RCA, who hold the core values ??of the faculty. I look forward to advising RCA and its students, in the hope that my experience can be useful to them.
Replacing Sir James Dyson OM, who has held the position since 2011, Ive taken office in July 2017. He will serve for a five-year term, helping to chair meetings and help run the institution. The designer will not be paid for his contributions during this time.
Who is luckier in all this? The college, which is considered the best in design in the world, or he, considered the world leader in design?
