How to test your internet with Netflix's speedometer | Diagnostics and improvements

Netflix offers an internet speed measurement service available in the web version and in the app for Android and iPhone (iOS). Fast is able to measure how fast downloads and uploads are made via the mobile network or wi-fi. The platform also analyzes the connection latency, which indicates how long it takes, in milliseconds, for a data packet to go from one designated point to another, such as from the smartphone to a web page.

The company's goal when creating the service was to offer subscribers a fast and free way to determine the speed offered by providers. The walkthrough below, performed on a Moto Z2 Play, can be done both in the mobile device app and on the website, because both have the same interface.

Step 1. Download the Fast.com app on TechTudo Downloads or visit Fast.com.

Step 2. When opening the app or website, the service will calculate the download speed of the network by itself, just wait. Touch Show more settings to view data such as upload speed and unloaded latency and loaded with network traffic (that is, when loading a web page).

Step 3. Go to Settings and access the possibilities offered by the program. As informed, Netflix makes a series of downloads and uploads to perform the test and the user can choose the maximum and minimum number of these connections. It is also allowed to choose the minimum and maximum time period, in seconds, for the measurement to be made.

Step 4. Below, there are some boxes that can be checked, if you want to measure the latency loaded during the upload (that is, include in the time estimate the situations in which a file is sent to a website, for example), always show all metrics (without having to touch the Show more information button) and / or save the new settings on those devices. Complete the selection, go to Save.

The service will automatically redo the assessment. But, if you want to repeat the procedure, just touch the arrow icon inside the green circle.
