WhatsApp started to restrict the forwarding of messages in Brazil. The versions of the messenger app for Android, web and PC (Windows) allow you to forward texts, photos and videos to a maximum of 20 people simultaneously. Before, the limit was more than 200 contacts. The apps for macOS and iOS still do not bring the novelty to Brazilians, but the change already appears for some iPhone users abroad. According to WhatsApp, the new function "is gradually being released to all users".

The limitation for forwarding messages was announced by WhatsApp in July this year as a measure to combat fake news. The restriction started in India, a country that has registered more than 20 deaths in the last months linked to rumors that circulated in the messenger. The most severe restriction there: anyone who wants to pass on content can choose only five contacts from the phonebook.

Other changes announced include removing the button next to media and links for fast forwarding. The shortcut, however, remains available in the mobile application. According to WhatsApp, the new restrictions aim to improve the security and privacy of users. In a note, the company explained that the measures could keep WhatsApp the way it should be: an app for private conversations.
In early July, WhatsApp had already implemented the first change in message forwarding. All the content transferred started to receive a stamp that notifies you when the text, image, video or link are from other conversations. A similar feature already existed in the rival Telegram, but more completely: in the open code messenger, it is possible to know who released the information first.
