The number of residential customers of high-speed networks and services at a fixed location (RAV) reached 2.8 million at the end of 2019, which means an increase of 10.4% compared to the value recorded in 2018. By regions, the increases more expressive in 2019 compared to the same period were registered in the Centro region (17.6%), Autonomous Region of the Azores (16.4%) and Alentejo (16.2%).
At the end of the period under analysis, around 67.3% of families subscribed to high-speed services at a fixed location and it is estimated that at least about 5.3 million households were cabled with a high-speed network, more 4.3% compared to the previous year. This increase caused cabled households with at least one RAV to reach around 84.5% at the end of 2019, 3.4 percentage points (p.p.) more than at the end of 2018.
By technology, it appears that the number of cabled wires with optical fiber (Fiber to the Home FTTH) amounted to around 4.98 million at the end of 2019, reaching a coverage of 78.7% and increasing 6.7% compared to the end of 2018. The regions with the most significant coverage increases in 2019 were the Algarve , the Center and the RAA, with an additional 8.5%, 7.4% and 7.2%, respectively
Regarding high-speed accesses supported on cable TV networks (Hybrid Fiber Coaxial HFC), the number of cabled households increased slightly (+ 0.3%) in 2019, totaling 3.76 million and reaching a coverage of 59.5%.
