According to the The Taiwan Economic News, Apple reportedly signed contracts with Largan Precision Co. and Genius Electronic Optical Co. for the 8-megapixel camera lenses that equip its new smartphone. Both were suppliers of the iPhone 4 camera and, together, they reached 27.5% of market share.
Earlier today we announced that Foxconn and Pegatron would have started production on the next iPhone. The interesting thing about these news is that both have two suppliers working for the same purpose. This shows that Apple is willing to create a type of competition among its partners, probably fighting over price, quality, speed in product delivery, etc.
Now, a curiosity: Genius Electronic, one of the aforementioned suppliers, was operating in the red until signing the contract with the Cupertino giant, turning losses into profits. It is interesting to note how Ma's ecosystem benefits companies around them.
