After a few troubled quarters, the division of wearable de Cupertino seems to have returned to flying at cruising speed. At least what the numbers from the most recent market research of the Canalys, which placed Apple as the largest manufacturer of wearables in the third quarter of 2017.
According to the analysis firm, Apple dispatched 3.9 million Apple Watches in the period, thus conquering 23% of the wearable market. Two other companies came close, but did not surpass Ma: Xiaomi got a share 21% and the Fitbit won 20%. In the back of the pellet, we still see the Huawei (6%) and the Samsung (5%); there is still the category "others", with a huge slice of 25% which shows that this is still a market in which cheap devices, from small companies, still have a considerable strength.
Speaking specifically of Apple, the 3.9 million units shipped represent a growth of more than 50% year-over-year, as Ma dispatched 2.8 million watches in the third quarter of 2016. According to Canalys, the growth mainly due to the Apple Watch Series 3 (released in September, that is, in the middle of the analyzed period), although the model with LTE does not represent the majority of this number: according to the firm, there were 800,000 Ma watches with cellular connectivity dispatched in the quarter , or about 20% of the total.
But the potential exists, as the company says:
"The high demand for the Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE has dispelled operators' doubts about a possible lack of interest in smartwatches with cellular connectivity from consumers," says Canalys analyst Jason Low. Despite the good numbers of dispatches, the Apple Watch Series 3 did not reach the peak of its potential in the third quarter. It suffered from limited availability, since demand was greater than supply in important markets.
With the news, Cupertino can now increase the pace of production of the Apple Watch without worries certainly, the holiday season will bring yet another cycle of prosperity for his garments.
