In my last important training and racing, I had serious problems with the app Nike + Run Club on my Apple Watch Nike + Series 2.
For those who do not remember, in this special edition of the Apple Watch the app ?comes shipped? and looks slightly different from the app installed separately on other Apple Watches. Without going into these details of the differences now, I am facing a relatively serious problem: the application simply stops working in the middle of the race, throwing all that data (heart rate, distance, pace, route, etc.) collected up until then. I then went to look a little more about it and found out that Edu is also suffering from the same illness (he also has an Apple Watch Nike +). In some forums and in the comments of the MacMagazine there are also people experiencing the same problem.
Reinstalling the Nike + Run Club app, reinstalling watchOS, changing the watch none of that solved the problem, so I decided to contact Apple support and managed to be attended to by their highest level, the staff even put me in touch with engineers of their own Nike. After a few days of testing and extracting information from my watch, they are still analyzing the data.
The bad part is that, at least for now, companies still don't have a definitive solution to the problem. In good standing, there is a temporary solution (the famous ?gambiarra?). Here's what they said:
Thank you for contacting Nike app and device support about the issue you're experiencing with your NRC app crashing on your Apple Watch.
We are aware of this problem and are on our way to solving it for you. Please be patient while we work on this; We will contact you as soon as we have news.
In the meantime, try turning on ?Do Not Disturb? mode on your Apple Watch for your next run. We will contact you shortly regarding a permanent correction.
Thank you and please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.
Nike support for apps and devices.
Of course, it would be much better not to have to worry about it (after all, you can just forget to activate ?Do Not Disturb? and lose data). But it is good to know that they are working to solve the problem permanently and that there is a way to get around everything, the ?gambiarra? apparently works, since I ran 6km this weekend and the app didn't crash.
Even in order to help Nike people, are you by any chance experiencing this problem on your Apple Watch? Is it first generation, Series 1, Series 2 or Nike +? Comment below!
