Google Maps changed the icon at the beginning of February, when it implemented other unique functions in celebration of the 15 years of the application. The new button replaced the small representation of a map and adopted a colored pin under a white background.
According to Google, the new appearance reflects the change in the way users take to their destinations that the app has provided over the years, with the pin representing an essential part of the app. In addition, the new button adopts the same simple language as other Google icons, such as Gmail and Google Photos.

Instagram also modernized its icon in 2016, keeping some elements from the previous version, but with a completely different concept. The camera, which took all the old button, was centered and gained more subtle lines, while the rainbow was placed in the form of a gradient in the background.
At the time, the internal layout was also changed. According to the company, the community had evolved and, to keep up with these changes, the new design needed to focus on photos and videos. Other Instagram apps, like Layout and Boomerang, also had a modernized look.

Uber had two major cone changes. In 2016, he left the logo that featured the letter U and started to adopt a "bit" centered on the screen, with animations inspired by tomes in the background. According to the company, the previous version was too formal.
Two years later, another reformulation: the icon began to display only the name of the application, which gained a new typography applied on a black background to the version used today. "The brand needed to work all over the world. Our logo is accessible, easy to read and takes full advantage of our name recognition," says Uber about the current model.

Twitter has already been represented by five other versions of Larry, named after the traditional blue bird, until reaching the current model, adopted in 2012. The first one shows a notable difference: he was the only one turned to the left.
All the others started to look to the right, adopting new features and details, such as protruding eyes and down, until reaching the current model, which is very similar to the predecessor, but has more rounded features and a slight inclination towards the top, which it gives a feeling of flying.

Microsoft updated the entire Office icon package in 2018, and this led to a change in the icons for apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and even Office mobile services were updated even before the PC software. The colors used in each service, however, remained the same, in order to continue to be recognized by the public. According to the company, the new language was adopted to emphasize the content and the collaborative aspect of these tools.

The new button started to show a lighter shade of blue, still in degradation, and started to show the traditional "F" more centralized, displacing the letter of the corner of the cone, as it was in the past. The change in the Snapchat icon was subtle. The application kept the yellow background, but the white ghost gained a broader streak, leaving the character's edges with a large black aura. Netflix made a major change to the icon in 2016 and maintains it today. Until then, the button had a white background and displayed the entire logo highlighted, leaving the word "Netflix" appearing completely.
With the redesign, the cone gained a black background and started to present only the initial "N" highlighted in the center of the button, with lines that simulate a folded strip of cinematographic film in red. Experts say the company made the change because it trusted that only the "N" would be enough to identify the brand in the world.
