How much and how to use the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) in Brazil

O Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) was on pre-sale since last week and today it finally officially landed on Brazilian soil.

Below, we will explain exactly what the difference is from the model with cellular connectivity to the model without, the amounts charged by Apple, how to use the watch, among other things.

Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) vs. (GPS + Cellular)

Looking at the clocks, the only thing that sets them apart is a red ball that is located on the Digital Crown, indicating that such model has cellular connectivity. This, in practice, is the only way for you to differentiate the models as soon as you stare at them.

With the clock on, however, things change. After all, the display of the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) has four marbles that show the quality of the connection with the operator.

If you want to purchase an Apple Watch model with a stainless steel or ceramic body (Apple Watch Edition), both models with a screen made of sapphire crystal (more resistant) instead of on-X glass, the only option is to buy the model with connectivity. This is because the GPS version of the watch (without connectivity) only has aluminum models.

To top it off, the model with GPS + Cellular has two good interesting differentials: 16GB of internal space and ceramic rear instead of the traditional 8GB and composite material rear of the GPS model.

How much does the watch cost in Brazil?

Below, you can see a table with the values ??of all models of the watch sold here in Brazil:

Apple Watch Series 3 models (GPS + Cellular)

Apple Watch

Apple Watch Nike +

Apple Watch Herms

Apple Watch Edition

The above values ??can be divided into up to 12x; for cash payments, there is a 10% rebate.

Can I buy an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) abroad?

The Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) models sold here in Brazil are two: A1889 (38mm) and A1891 (42mm). These are models marketed abroad in countries such as Germany, Australia, Korea, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, United Kingdom, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and Taiwan.

That's right: if you buy an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) in the United States, the connectivity part of the watch * won't * work here. Obviously, you can use the Apple Watch in a good way with your iPhone by the side. That is to say, if you like a stainless steel model, the Apple Watch Herms or the Apple Watch Edition, you can buy in the USA in a good way to save and use here in Brazil, as long as you do not insist on using it without the iPhone on the side.

How much does the data plan cost for the watch?

Currently, to use an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) in Brazil, you must necessarily be a customer of a postpaid plan from the operator Claro as we have already discussed in this article. The clock plan itself is called Sync course and, as its name implies, what it does is a ?sync? of the plan between your iPhone and Apple Watch.

With it, the same number active on your smartphone is enabled simultaneously on the Apple Watch. So you can make and receive calls on your watch without your iPhone around. And still receive / send messages, access apps (like Apple Music), command Siri, among other features.

Sync course

In addition to using the same number, as we said, your plan is shared with the synchronized device, which guarantees greater freedom and convenience, especially for the practice of sports and during leisure time.

The Claro sync plan costs R $ 30 per month for those who already subscribe to a Claro Ps Unlimited plan, but only after the fourth month since the first three are free. For those who travel abroad a lot, the bad news is that this plan * will not * work in roaming international and not integrated with Claro Passport services (America and Europe). In other words, outside of Brazil, the clock works as if it did not have its own cellular connectivity precisely because of the complexity of supporting several frequency bands / bands in a single model.

How to configure Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular)?

Using the watch is very simple. With everything in hand (watch, iPhone and postpaid plan and signed watch plan), it is worthwhile to open the Settings app on the iPhone and go to General About just to see if there are any operator settings updates available (if yes, an alert will appear for you to update).

Setting up an Apple Watch

If you are setting up the clock for the first time (that is, you have just purchased), you can activate the cellular service just by following the instructions on the screen when you go about setting up your own clock, in a very simple way.

If you already have a watch with connectivity being used, but without the plan set up, all you need to do:

  1. On the iPhone, open the Watch app;
  2. Touch the "My Watch" tab and then touch "Mobile";
  3. Tap on ?Configure Cell Phone?;
  4. Follow the instructions that will appear on the screen.

With everything properly configured, it is important to know that the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) automatically switches to the available wireless network that consumes less power (among them, we have: a known Wi-Fi network or the cellular data network in addition, of course, the iPhone itself when it is close).

The Apple Watch is compatible with 4G / LTE networks. If that network is not available, the watch will attempt to connect to the UMTS network (if the operator supports it). And when your Apple Watch is connected to a cellular network, you can access the Control Center or the ?Explorer? display to check the signal strength. To open the Control Center, swipe from bottom to top on the display.

If the button ?Celular? is green, it means that your watch is connected to a cellular network, the green dots just above the button indicate the signal strength; if the button is white, it means that the Apple Watch is connected to the iPhone using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Other important tips for those who have an Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) with a data plan enabled:

  • To check the use of cellular data, open the Watch app and, in the "My Watch" tab, tap "Mobile" and scroll down to the "Use of Cellular Data" section.
  • To activate or deactivate the cellular connection, swipe from bottom to top on the display to open the Control Center. Tap the Cellular icon and enable or disable the Cellular option.
  • Leaving the Cellular option activated for long periods consumes more battery power; in addition, some apps are not updated when there is no connection to the iPhone.
  • To receive SMS, MMS or notifications push of third-party apps on the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular), the paired iPhone must be turned on and connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network.

What can we do with the connected clock?

When connected to a cellular network or a known Wi-Fi network (which you have already connected with your iPhone), your Apple Watch is capable of:

  • Use Siri to get itineraries, send iMessages and more;
  • Send and receive messages through the Messages app;
  • Make and receive calls through the Telephone app;
  • Check the current weather using the Weather app;
  • Track shares on the stock exchange through the Bolsa app;
  • Control your devices connected to the HomeKit protocol through the Casa app;
  • Use all Wi-Fi compatible apps, such as Find My Friends.

Not to mention, of course, the other things you can do without depending on an internet connection, such as monitoring your workouts with the Exercise app and your goals with the Activity app, seeing the time and using the Alarm, Timer and Stopwatch apps , play music from a playlist synchronized, view photos from synced albums, shop with Apple Pay, check your heart rate, relax and consciously breathe with the Breathe app, set and respond to reminders and more.

How to remove the data plan from the clock?

Removing the plan is as simple as activating it. To do this, follow the instructions below:

Removing an Apple Watch Series 3 plan (GPS + Cellular)

  1. On the iPhone, open the Watch app;
  2. Touch the "My Watch" tab and then touch "Mobile";
  3. Touch the button information icon next to the operator, at the top of the screen;
  4. Touch ?Remove Plan (operator)? and touch again to confirm;
  5. If you do not pair again, you will need to contact your operator to cancel your subscription.

It is worth mentioning that when you delete and unpair your Apple Watch, you will also see the option to remove the plan from the watch. When prompted, select "Erase All" to remove the plan.
