APEX 2020: Vivo's new conceptual smartphone wants to “dazzle” with a 48 MP gimbal camera

With the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the Mobile World Congress due to the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19), Vivo was forced to postpone the launch of the new APEX 2020. February 28 was then marked on the manufacturer's technological calendar Chinese as the new presentation date for the successor of NEX 3 smartphones and APEX 2019.

Similar to previous models, the new conceptual smartphone has support for 5G networks and a fingerprint sensor built into almost the entire area of ??the infinite screen. The functional buttons that we normally find on smartphones have been replaced by pressure sensors and charging is done through a magnetic connector, which also serves to transfer data between equipment. The loudspeakers have been suppressed and the sound emitted by vibrations emanating directly from the display.

The new APEX 2020 stands out for its photographic capabilities. The smartphone features a 48 MP rear gimbal camera, promising greater stability when capturing images. Vivo states that the sensor with a design inspired by chameleons' eyes allows 200% greater image stabilization than traditional systems.

At the top of the gimbal chamber is a 16 MP periscopic sensor with a continuous zoom of around 5x and 7.5x. The module in which it is located is only 6.2 mm in size. To compensate for the lack of a self-contained camera in the APEX 2019, the updated model has a 16 MP front sensor hidden under the screen. When activated, the zone it is in becomes transparent.

Inside the APEX 2020 is a Snapdragon 865 processor that includes a 5G modem. The smartphone also has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. On the outside, the 6.45-inch FullView AMOLED infinity screen that wraps the device at 120 degrees.

It is recalled that Vivo has no plans to place APEX 2020 in stores. The device is a conceptual proof that shows the technical capabilities and ideas that the company has for the future. It is possible that we will see a model with some of these features on the market, but it is unlikely that all of them will arrive integrated in a single equipment.
