TCL will strengthen the range of smartphones with new models. Flexible only when the market is more mature

Stefan Streit, general marketing director at TCL, shared with SAPO TEK a very clear vision of the strategy for each of the segments. The Alcatel brand continues and is very important to us. It has a very specific positioning in the value segment, but it has limits. Here it is difficult to launch, for example, a 5G smartphone, he explains. TCL lives in a range above that we have at Alcatel, in a premium mid sector, with a lot of quality and technological innovation, but at affordable prices, he reinforces.

Regarding the recent news of the abandonment of the BlackBerry brand, Stefan Streit says that it was a separation by mutual agreement between the two parties. We can not say more than what was advanced in the advertisement, but the agreement with BlackBerry had not only the brand, there was technology licensing and R&D obligations, he says, contrasting that with the Alcatel brand there is more freedom in licensing.

Regarding the strengthening of the range of TCL smartphones, the marketing director forwards to later the disclosure of details about the phones, but confirms a 5G model by the end of the first semester, at a cost below the equipment that is reaching the market, and that they are almost all high-end. But the reinforcement of the brand positioning is also done in the complementary lines, such as wireless headsets and headphones, and the IoT line that will be extended with the TCL brand.
