Italian consumer protection associations sue Apple for product warranty issues

The thing is ugly for Apple, in Europe. After being severely criticized by several countries such as Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and even by the European Union (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8), the company will face a lawsuit involving two Italian protection associations to the consumer for not respecting the country's national guarantee rules.

Federconsumatori and Center for the Protection of Consumers and Users (CTCU) opened a collective action against Ma, citing the 900,000 euro fine the company has already taken and the recent letter sent by Viviane Reding, Justice Commissioner of the European Union, to countries of the group to investigate the way in which Apple announces the warranty of its products.

Massimo Cerniglia, the legal action lawyer, said the lawsuit against three Apple group companies has already been sanctioned by antitrust authorities: Apple Sales International (from Ireland), Apple Italia and Apple Retail Italia. Companies will be formally notified of the action within a few days and consumers who have been induced to buy AppleCares (warranty extensions) needlessly have around six months to decide whether they want to participate in the process.

"We have had a lot of customer reports saying that the phenomenon of selling extended warranty protection continues, even after the action of the antitrust authority and the decision of the Regional Administrative Court," said Cerniglia. ?Apple products are excellent and I use them myself. It is a pity that the quality of marketing is not as good as the products themselves. ?
