Huawei today launched Mate Xs with FullView folding screen and redesigned hinge

At an event broadcast live today, which was due to take place during MWC 2020 in Barcelona, ??Huawei unveiled its latest device, the foldable smartphone, Huawei Mate Xs.

Compared to its predecessor in terms of design, the device appears unchanged, although the hinge has apparently been strengthened and now arrives with the company's latest processor, the Kirin 990 5G.

Unlike the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip, both from Samsung, Mate Xs folds your screen in an inverted way, that is, the screens are on the "outside" part of the smartphone. You have a screen on the front and back and when you unfold you have the tablet mode.

Unlike Samsung and Motorola, the Mate Xs screen, like the Mate X, is exposed all the time.Unlike Samsung and Motorola, the Mate Xs screen, like the Mate X, is exposed all the time.

This means that the four-layer plastic OLED screen is exposed all the time, thus being more likely to suffer some type of damage.

Huawei claimed to have made changes to both the screen and the hinge to make the device more durable. However those who had access to Mate Xs, said that although it looks really more robust, the folding mechanism still produces a noise when folding and unfolding the screen, but that the unit is an initial pre-production unit.

There were changes in the specifications of Huawei Mate Xs, now we have Kirin 990 5G processor, bringing high performance and compatibility with the 5G bands (SA / NSA).

The set of quad cameras remained the same, bringing a 40 megapixel main sensor f / 1.8, a 16 megapixel ultra wide angle f / 2.2, an 8 megapixel 3x optical zoom telephoto lens f / 2.4, OIS and ToF sensor, this configuration is similar to that of the P30 Pro.

Due to the way the phone folds, the same cameras are also used for selfies, as the screen also works on the back of the smartphone, which while folded can be used to view the image captured by the cameras. The fingerprint sensor is on the on / off button.

When folded, the front screen is 6.6 inches and its total thickness is 11mm, which is quite thick when compared to other conventional smartphones and even competing folders. When you unfold your screen changes from 6.6 inches to 8 inches, the tablet mode of the device Huawei stay with only 5.4mm thick in this mode.

The Huawei Mate Xs, brings two batteries that together add up to 4,500mAh, comes with a 55W charger that promises in 30 minutes to charge 55% of the device. Other specifications include 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

THE Huawei also says that improvements in EMUI 10.0 (based on Android 10) increase the usability Mate Xs, it is possible for example to open 3 applications at the same time and split them on the screen.

While the original Mate X was not put up for sale outside of China, the Mate Xs reached Europe. It will be on sale next month for $ 2,700 (2,499) and it will be interesting to see how much interest there is at that price when Samsung now sells a foldable for about half that.

At the same event, Huawei also presented a range of other products, some of which are already available in China. MatePad Pro is an impressive competitor to the iPad Pro, starting in 549, and the company also shared more about the Play Store alternative, called Huawei AppGallery.

We do not know at the moment if the device arrives in Brazil at some point.
