Telegram apps for iOS are temporarily removed from the App Store [atualizado 2x: de volta!]

From yesterday to today, unexpectedly, apps from Telegram for iOS including Telegram X, which was made official yesterday by the guys disappeared from the App Store. Interestingly, their versions for macOS are still available.

Initially, Telegram's founder and CEO Pavel Durov had responded to someone on Twitter stating that it was "a small problem and that the apps would be back soon". Then he deleted that tweet and posted the following:

We were alerted by Apple that inappropriate content was being made available to our users and both applications were removed from the App Store. Once we have protections in place, we expect the apps to return to the App Store.

It was not clear, however, what kind of content these would be. Other competing communicators are also available at the store.

As soon as the apps return, or if there is any new update of the case, we will update this article.

Update II 02/05/2018 s 15:20

Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller clarified in an email obtained by 9to5Mac that the reason for the temporary removal of Telegram had to do with the distribution of images from child pornography through the app.

As soon as Apple became aware of the fact, she removed the apps from her store, notified the developer and notified the authorities including the non-governmental organization National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
