Five people have already been convicted of actively participating in the theft that culminated in the leak of photos of several nude celebrities (Jennifer Lawrence, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kate Upton, Kirsten Dunst, Kaley Cuoco, Victoria Justice and Teresa Palmer, for example), known as Fappening or Celebgate. And now, one more.
Christopher Brannan, a former high school teacher (High School), admitted that he accessed more than 200 iCloud, Facebook and Yahoo accounts, downloading personal photos and videos of such personalities, as reported by The Mercury News.
Brannan also hacked into his sister-in-law's account, who was underage at the time, as well as other current and former Lee-Davis High School teacher and student accounts, where he taught until 2015 according to court records. All of this using social engineering and doing a lot of research to discover some security questions tied to accounts, then sending fake emails in order to get the login information. After logging in, he used an Elcomsoft program to download the material.
After that, he then went on to negotiate usernames, passwords and stolen photos online, according to court documents. For the crimes, he was sentenced to 34 months and agreed to pay a fine.
