The Google Play Store count involves every time the app has been installed by someone, whether new or old. The metric also includes pre-installations, which ends up favoring the Facebook app and, mainly, Google's software. The App Store, an iPhone application store (iOS) does not report the volume of downloads of apps and games on Apple devices.
It is worth mentioning that the 5 billion reached by WhatsApp do not reflect the number of active users of the platform. The last data released by the messenger, in 2018, revealed that there were more than 1.5 billion people online monthly. The current amount, however, is uncertain.
Most used app in Brazil and worldwide
WhatsApp was the most used app app in Brazil in 2019, according to report by monitoring company App Annie. The app is also at the top in the world ranking of monthly users, which takes into account Android and iPhone phones. After him, there are three other Facebook apps: the social network itself, Messenger and Instagram.
Its popularity also boosted WhatsApp Business, especially in Brazil. The business app grew the most in the country in 2019. In other markets, including emerging markets such as India and Indonesia, the business version reached, at most, the second position.
