Instagram removed the IGTV shortcut on the app's home screen for Android and iPhone (iOS) phones. The measure is the result of a low volume of users who actually clicked there to explore long vertical videos. On the other hand, the services will become even more integrated: according to TechCrunch from the last saturday (18), the main app of the social network started to accept uploads of more than 1 minute, something that, until then, was exclusive to the web version and the independent app of IGTV.

In a statement to the specialized website, a Facebook representative, who acquired Instagram in 2012, says that very few (people) were clicking on the icon in the upper right corner of the home screen. IGTV is still accessible on the Explore tab, in the feed, in the creator profiles and in the application itself.

Launched as a separate application in 2018, IGTV would not have had the acceptance expected by Facebook, accumulating less than 1% of the downloads of the main app. While more than 1 billion people downloaded Instagram, only about 7 million would have installed IGTV. The long video app never made it into the top 20 downloads of 2019.
Instagram does not reveal IGTV view numbers, but videos featured in the Explore section show counts far below those seen in the most popular YouTube posts. Part of the reasons would be linked to the lack of incentives to cultivate breeders.
Unlike the Google platform and Facebook itself, profiles with many followers on IGTV do not receive a slice of the advertising revenue mediated by Instagram. With fewer people willing to create content, naturally fewer users would have been encouraged to access the long video feed only.
As a result, Instagram users would end up not following profiles they create for IGTV, watching this type of content only when impacted by something seen in the Instagram feed or Explore tab. The social network did not reveal plans to abandon IGTV.
