Does your memory card not appear on your desktop or in the Finder? In both cases, we guide you with internal and external tools on your Mac
You have tried other entries and even another computer, but the memory card doesn't work on your Mac? In the task of accessing and recovering your files, any despair is understandable. Fortunately, we have prepared a quick tutorial to help you verify and solve the problem.
First of all, it is worth checking if the SD card is free of dust or damaged. It can be cleaned with a dry cloth, no problem just blowing it like an old video game cartridge.
It still didn't work? According to an iBoysoft publication, there 4 main reasons for your memory card not to be recognized: virus, system error, card corruption or card reader Mac it's damaged. We explain how to test internal tools and identify the problem with the steps below.
Check the Finder
First, open the Finder and choose Preferences in the top menu of the app. Click on the tab General and choose the option External drives. Then see if the SD will appear on the desktop.
Another exit to check, still inside the flap Preferences, the menu Sidebar. L, select External drives in the list of Locations.
If you do not see a memory card in the sidebar of the Disk Utility, just click View and choose Show all devices, to check if SD appears on the desktop.
If it still does not appear, the card may be corrupted. However, we help you with this task in the next step.
Corrupted memory card
If the card appears in the disk utility and not on the desktop, you can send it manually (by right clicking on the card icon) or recover it with the tab First aid located at the top of the window (the image from the previous step shows First Aid). So just select and wait for the repair process to be completed.
If it still hasn't worked, another way to format your card, which can be done on the machine itself, on another device (for example, a photo camera) or even on Windows, very quickly. But the warning is worth it: formatting the card means deleting all the data on it. If you don't want to lose your files, you can use software that does it for you.
Card detected, but no files
Another possible situation is that your card will be displayed on your machine, however, it is empty (and you are sure it was not him to be!). Just as you can also format the card on another device, as mentioned above, it is also possible to check if it is really empty. If your photos only appear on your camera, connect to a Windows or USB card reader right on your Mac, for example.
Some cameras also transfer files via USB, without removing the card. In these cases, the transfer time may change dramatically but at least your files will not be lost.
After all the steps and tips above, we hope that you have managed to recover your card. Tell us your saga in the comments.
