A visit to the NASA Center, in English known as NASA Headquarters, in Washington D.C, the first prize of the winning group of the national competition FCT NOVA Challenge 2020, promoted by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT NOVA). The competition seeks out the next Portuguese scientists and, for the first time, registration is also open to students from professional schools.
The FCT NOVA Challenge consists of a competition between teams of three to five students, guided by a maximum of two teachers, who must grant or build a project that translates into a practical resolution of a concrete science or engineering problem, which can pass through a methodology innovative. Ideally, the experiences employed by students in the FCT NOVA Challenge should contribute to the advancement of science, explains the Faculty in a statement.
In its 5th edition, the contest presents this year several new features. In addition to students in the 12th year of scientific-human science and technology and scientific-human science socio-economic courses, students from vocational schools can also apply for the award.
Also, for the first time, all students will be able to see their projects or works displayed and awarded in the public presentation of the projects, which precedes the session for the delivery of awards, scheduled for June 5.
The winning group will have the opportunity to travel to the United States of America to visit the NASA Center in Washington DC, without any cost of travel and accommodation, with the trip planned to take place in the second half of July, in a date to be agreed with the winning group. For the 2nd and 3rd places the contest offers a monetary prize of 2,000 and 1,000 euros, respectively.
