What e-boy? See what the new fashion and style of the Internet means | Internet

E-boys (or electronic boys) represent a new style that has been successful on social media. Adopting a contrasting look to that of traditional TikTok influencers, the new class of boys emerged in the short video app and has already become popular on Instagram. E-boys embody the evolution of the emo aesthetic, very popular with teenagers in the early 2000s. Colored hair, chains, piercings and gothic clothing are among the marks of this new trend.

The term's popularity has grown on the Internet. Data from Google Trends, a tool for monitoring web searches, show that the search volume for the expression "e-boy" has been on the rise in Brazil since August 2019, having reached its peak in December. In TikTok, videos marked with the hashtag #eboy surpass the 2 billion mark of views. The success is repeated on Instagram: there are more than 580 thousand photos tagged with it. A user of the Urban Dictionary website, a glossary specializing in web graphics, defines an e-boy as "the new and improved goth who lives only on the Internet". The presence of "e", "electronic", already shows that the aesthetic belongs exclusively to a virtual community unlike the so-called VSCO Girls, for example, which can be found outside the online environment.

The e-boys, however, continue to struggle with the dominant style among traditional influencers. Inspired by the emo look, they are considered the latest social media subculture. It is worth saying that you don't have to be a man to be an e-boy. The term refers more to a sad aesthetic than to a specific genre.

How are photos and videos on TikTok?

Extremely popular with teenagers, TikTok is the main means of spreading the new wave of electronic boys. In the videos published in the application, this new class of boys usually tries to play a sarcastic posture, rolling their eyes and smiling in a conical way while a heavy rap or melancholic music plays in the background. In general, clips are recorded in the user's own room.

The e-boys also gained space on Instagram. In this social network, the photos are marked by more cool tones and serious poses. In addition, it is possible to find short videos in which the boys show the process of assembling the looks.

E-boys are known for their gothic look, commonly marked by strong, dark colors. Chains are just the right thing in these boys' wardrobes and appear in different ways: attached to the belt, decorating the neck and even styling backpacks. Another striking accessory is the hat, which can cover natural or colored hair, often painted in two colors or more, with degradations.

The clothes of electronic boys they are a mixture of the emo style prevalent in the mid 2000s with a footprint of trends that dictated fashion in the 90s. cropped, plaid, stripes and long sleeve overlays with t-shirt make up the look boys.
