Android Donut reveals next features

Google this week released an alpha version of the next generation of Android – the mobile open-source platform for smartphones – which will bring important new features and implementations as official multitouch support. Using an emulator, the MobileCrunch blog unveiled some of the news that are being integrated:

  • CDMA – Support for CDMA cell phones.
  • Text-to-speech – Technology that allows you to translate text files into voice.
  • Widgets – Possibility to configure WiFi / Bluetooth / GPS / Email and brightness adjustment through the input screen.
  • Multitouch – Official multitouch support.
  • Universal Search – Integrated search to all system functionalities.
  • WPA encryption – WPA Enterprise WiFi encryption support.
  • VPN – Native VPN support.
  • Security – Automatic backups.
  • Performance – Bug fixes and performance improvements.

* The release of this version of Android is being scheduled to occur at the end of the year (Christmas).
