IPhone owners who migrated from Touch ID to Face ID may have complained, until the release of iOS 12, of the possibility of registering only one face as a form of biometric authentication of the iPhone X. This is because, unlike the latest technology, Touch ID allows registering up to five fingerprints.
On the one hand, it makes perfect sense: we have ten fingers, but only one face. However, given some Face ID recognition flaws, Apple decided to implement a feature called ?alternative look? in iOS 12 which, in turn, allows you to register a second face on compatible iPhones.
Although the purpose of this option is to record your appearance with accessories and other accessories (such as glasses, lenses and / or hats), you can use it to register someone else's face in order to give access to your device without having to type the password. The procedure is basically the same as that performed during the initial configuration of Face ID.
To add a second face, make sure your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS (General Software Update Settings) and follow the steps below:
- Open the Settings app and select ?Face ID and Code?. Insert the access code, if requested.
- Tap on ?Configure an Alternative Look?.
- Tap ?Continue? and register your alternate look or someone else's face as normal.
Remember that if you want to add another person and later decide to remove them, you will need to reset the Face ID (which will be removed from the two registered users). In addition, the feature does not allow you to record a face horizontally (the iPhone must necessarily be standing).
