In addition, the tutes indicate that there is no standard of devices affected by the failure and that, while there are people using the application without problems, others are unable to send or receive messages. According to the complaints map of Downdetector, a site that reports on problems with online services, the bug is concentrated in the southeastern region of Brazil, and started just before 4 pm. TechTudo got in touch with WhatsApp, but still got no response.

The Downdetector recorded a peak of more than 1,400 notifications as of 4 pm, and the comments section of the site concentrates reports on not receiving or sending messages via WhatsApp even when connected to Wi-Fi or 3G. Some complaints indicate that the failure actually started to happen around 3 pm, and owners of models from brands like Asus, Xiaomi and iPhone also reported the bug.

On Twitter, comments about WhatsApp being off the air report different bugs with the app. Some users claimed to see the message "WhatsApp is temporarily unavailable" when registering the number in the app after installation. The same error happened last month, and prevents people from logging into the app.

Complaints also show that the failure affected users in different ways. While some are unable to send or receive messages, with others the contacts saved on WhatsApp do not appear.

Other tutes indicate that there is no clear standard for users affected by the failure, since it does not happen only with some edition of the operating system or device model.
