WhatsApp Beta for Android has gained a new shortcut for calls in chat groups. The function is part of version 2.18.370 of the application and is being released gradually to users. As with the iPhone messenger (iOS), the feature allows you to select up to three participants in the group to make video or audio calls.

In the following walkthrough, see how group linking works. The procedure was performed on a Moto E4 with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but the tips apply to other phones with the Google system. Step 1. Open any group and tap on the phone icon in the upper right corner of the screen. Then, select the contacts you want to make a group call with and tap the phone or camera icon. Note that it is only possible to select three people and only the numbers saved in your phonebook appear in the list;

Step 2. The group audio or video connection will begin. The controls are identical to calls made in other ways: at the bottom of the screen are the microphone and camera options and just above the button to end the call. You can tap on the arrow icon in the upper left corner of the screen to minimize the call and access the group chat screen and view the conversation. Afterwards, touch the green bar to return the call.
