Early last month, at the opening keynote of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2018, Apple announced that the CarPlay finally have support for third-party GPS navigation applications on iOS 12. A priori, Ma announced that the Google Maps it's the Waze they are already working on this integration.
Just over a month has passed and we already have the next connectivity candidate with CarPlay o Sygic, well-known offline browsing app. According to an article published on the Sygic blog, since WWDC18 they have been working to get the news announced as soon as possible. In addition, the company released an image that shows how to be the software interface in Ma's automotive system.
The data and image provided by Sygic gives you a taste of what to expect from navigation apps on CarPlay. In the image, it is possible to see that the map used is no different from that of iPhones / iPads, since Apple allowed developers to use the default layout and design of their applications for the base of the maps.
However, for any other content that is displayed outside the base of the map, such as music icons, apps and signal strength, developers should use the element library provided for iOS 12.
Unlike Google Maps and Waze, Sygic uses the internet connection only to download the map of a specific country or region. After that, you can navigate turn by turn without having to be connected. This makes the app the first offline browser to be integrated with CarPlay.
Given the early release, Sygic app users can look forward to an app update later this year with support for CarPlay. The app itself, compatible with iPhones, iPads and Apple Watches, is available on the App Store.
