Four days from now, on July 10, 2018, the App Store complete ten years of existence. it is a story of absolute success, judging by the 500 apps present in the store at the time of its opening and which have multiplied in such a way that today we have 2.1 million titles available a touch away.
To mark this very important date for the world of technology, the analysis firm Annie app published an interesting overview of the main hits from the 2010 App Store (the year the firm started collecting data) to today.
The survey starts with an interesting comparison of the most popular apps (excluding games) in 2010 and 2018, both in downloads and user spending. It is important to note, here, the changing trends: while in 2010 we had an important focus on productivity, today the interest of consumers is almost entirely in social applications or dedicated to entertainment.
In this sense, it is also interesting to note the growing presence of apps focused almost entirely on the Chinese market: the most downloaded app in the world today, Tik Tok, an Asian social network that has almost no penetration in the Western world.
We can also note which are the most downloaded apps and games of all time, as well as those that consumers have spent the most in these eight years of data:
Another interesting survey: games represent only 31% of app downloads as a whole, but generate 75% of revenue. The chart below makes this distinction by dividing the world into three areas: America, EMEA (referring to Europe, Africa and the Middle East) and APAC (referring to the rest of Asia and Oceania).
App Annie also listed the App Store's top ten markets, both in downloads and consumer spending. We are not on either list, does anyone risk saying why?
The complete survey of the firm can be accessed at this link. As for the App Store itself, let another ten years of great success come!
