GIF stickers arrived in Stories earlier in the year and became a hit. In a partnership with the Giphy platform, animations can be added as stickers and resized as you like, making posts more creative and personalized. Another sticker that also became popular was launched in July and allows users to ask their followers questions. Unlike polls, this sticker makes it possible to write more elaborate responses and create greater interaction.

In the month of June, Instagram released a native sticker that puts music on Stories. Even after so long, the sticker has not yet arrived definitively in Brazil and is only available to some users from countries like the United States and Canada. Despite this, there are alternatives to inserting a soundtrack to your story, such as sharing your favorite songs through Spotify or using a trick capturing the screen while playing a track.

Faced with controversies involving data leaks on Facebook, Instagram released the download of a file with all the user's information on the social network. The backup features photos, videos, comments, profile information, search history, followers list, settings, likes, direct messages and media shared with contacts. The procedure can also be done by the computer.

In the month of May, Instagram started to allow sharing of posts from the feed in Stories, as if it were a common sticker. The sticker has two layout options for personalization and the information from the original publication is also displayed, making it clear that it is a repost. In order for the user to be able to share the image, the profile must be in public mode, but it is possible to disable the option so that no friend can share his posts.

In the month of January, Instagram started testing a political function: the user would receive a notification when someone took a print of their Stories, just as it happens on Snapchat. After months of experiments, the social network announced in June that it had given up on the feature and the notifications will no longer be shown. The reasons that led the company to not officialize the alerts were not informed.

A curious fact happened in September involving the use of the platform in Brazil and abroad. Foreign users were using the hashtag sextou, famous in our country to announce the arrival of Friday, with a pornographic interpretation. The tag gained the meaning Sex to U (sex for you, in Portuguese), and was associated with several photos and videos of explicit sex within the social network.

To get around the situation, Brazilians started using #sextou (with a beer emoji at the end of the tag). Since sexual content explicit against Instagram guidelines, the social network temporarily blocked the hashtag and deleted the inappropriate posts.

An interview published by the American website The Verge explained how the order of viewing Stories works, clarifying doubts about the requirements used by the algorithms to put someone at the top of the contact list, both in publications and in story views. The Instagram product leader explained that the amount of interactions on Instagram, Facebook and activities within the platform can influence the ranking position.

A very desired function by users came to Instagram in May. The Mute button allows you to silence contacts without having to delete profiles from the social network's friends list, avoiding embarrassing situations with your friends. The feature gives the user control over the content displayed in their feed, showing only what really matters to them without having to stop following. To maintain the privacy of the action, the friend silenced in the notification that his profile was hidden.

In June, Instagram launched a secondary video platform, IGTV, which allows the publication of long videos, up to an hour long, only vertically and supporting files with resolution up to 4K. The daring maneuver sought to compete with other services for creating audiovisual content via streaming, such as YouTube.

The service can be used in a standalone application made available for Android and iPhone (iOS), but it can also be accessed within Instagram itself through an exclusive section for that. After a certain time of its launch, it can be said that IGTV is not so popular, but has channels with several exclusive contents.

2018 was full of modinhas and curious photo challenges on Instagram. One of the most famous involved the English player Dele Alli, who created a different and complicated gesture with his fingers on his face to celebrate his goals. On Instagram, the fashion was to reproduce the gesture using hashtags like #delechallenge and #deleallichallenge.

Another position copied by several users challenged people to put their feet in the bathroom sink to take a picture. In the second semester, there were also famous photos with the face on the floor, as if the person had just fallen, and the challenge of pretending to be dead on the social network.
