The special iPhones battery replacement program ended on December 31 and, with it, prices for such a repair have gone up again. During the ?promotion?, Apple made 11 million battery repairs, as John Gruber Daring Fireball.
The information was revealed by Apple CEO Tim Cook himself during an internal meeting with company officials to discuss the iPhone's bad times. Cook also said that during a normal year, Apple replaces between 1-2 million batteries, that is, 9 million less than last year.
If you followed the events of this beginning of the year involving Apple, then remember that such an internal meeting took place in light of the letter of review of the company's financial results for the first fiscal quarter of 2019, in which Cook described some factors for the low sales of iPhones.
Among trade issues involving the United States and China, the CEO also cited the battery replacement program as one of those responsible for the drop in sales of new iPhones. However, as advocated by former Apple Jean-Louis Gasse, the company knew that the program would affect the number of battery replacements, but it may have underestimated the impact of this action mainly after the announcement of the new iPhones last September.
In other words, many consumers may have waited for Apple's news to decide between buying one of the new iPhones or joining the battery replacement program to keep their device for a while longer. Nevertheless, Gasse opposes the idea defended by Cook in the letter to investors (that the battery replacement program influenced the company's $ 7 billion drop in revenue), since the program started during the first fiscal quarter of 2018.
