1. Digital unlock

To ensure greater protection of conversations, WhatsApp now allows the use of the fingerprint reader to free access to the app. The novelty arrived in February on the iPhone it is also possible to use Face ID as a security measure and in October on Android. Remember that notifications are still displayed on the home screen and that you can also use quick responses to send in conversations without having to unlock the app.
In May, WhatsApp for Android started automatically playing audio received in sequence, eliminating the need to "play" each file. The function is a convenience that saves the user time and makes conversations more fluid. This function has existed on the iPhone since October last year.
3. Memoji support on iPhone

IPhone users started to use Memojis, iOS custom emojis, as stickers. Before that, the figures were sent in conversations in image format. The cones appear in the same bar as traditional emojis, and show the character with different facial expressions. The function was noticed in the Beta version in August, and reached all users in the following month.
4. New emojis on Android
Two new emoji packs arrived on WhatsApp for Android in 2019. The first, launched in January, released 127 icons, including faces of human expressions, in addition to new animals and food. Some figures have also been updated and remodeled.

The second wave, launched in November, brought a wide variety of people of different genders and representations of individuals with physical disabilities. The polemic emoji of "Hand pinching", nicknamed "mixuruca" by Internet users, was also released in this version.

In August, messages sent on WhatsApp began to display a double arrow to signal that the content had already been sent to several people. The purpose of the warning is to prevent the proliferation of fake news on the platform, and indicate to the user that that text may be a chain.
The messenger also started to notify users who try to pass on a message many times, in an attempt to curb the excessive transfer of these contents. In October, WhatsApp admitted that there was illegal mass messaging during the 2018 elections.
6. New cones on Android

A redesign of the icons present in the settings arrived at the Android app in February. Some menus have been redesigned to make the design more modern and to help activate functions more easily. Some "on / off" symbols and keys have also been added to make the settings more precise and clear for users.
7. Hide status completely
Since September, WhatsApp allows you to completely hide the Status of unwanted contacts. Before that, even silencing the publications of certain contacts, they remained visible on the screen, with the color faded, which could irritate some users. Since the change, the inconvenient contents have been permanently deleted from the list. If you regret and want to reactivate a person's Status, just tap the drop-down arrow on the screen.

In June, WhatsApp started showing the recipient's name on the editing screen displayed before sending a photo, so that the user knows who is sending that content. The contact's name appears when sending any media, be it photo, video or GIF. The measure was taken to avoid sending images by mistake.
9. Group privacy feature

WhatsApp started to release, in October, the function that allows to define who can add the user to a group. The privacy feature prevents unwanted people from adding your number to inconvenient conversations. You can choose whether anyone can add you to a group or just your contacts, and you can exclude people from that release list.
10. Product catalogs on WhatsApp Business

In November, WhatsApp Business released the possibility of creating a catalog of products offered by the store to facilitate ordering by the messenger. In just a few taps, the user can receive the entire list of items for sale at that establishment, with new photos and detailed information on price, description, link and code.
