The 2018 summer solstice in the southern hemisphere takes place this Friday (21). Thus, the Google logo on the home page has been replaced by an animation that celebrates the end of spring and the first day of summer, which is even the longest day of the year due to the prolonged period of solar lighting.
Doodle featuring a character who follows the aesthetics of the illustrations of the spring and autumn equinoxes of this year. In the animation, she takes advantage of the sunlight protected by dark glasses in a small lake, and accompanied by flowers, fish and a victory.

The summer solstice indicates the end of spring and the first day of summer. The word originated from the combination of the Latin terms sol and sistere (which does not move, in free translation), and refers to the impression that the Sun remains in the same place throughout the day, due to the greatest illumination of a hemisphere on Earth . As a consequence, during the solstice the nights are shorter.
The winter solstice is the opposite. It occurs between autumn and winter, and consists of the longest night of the year, since the hemisphere receives less solar radiation. Meanwhile, the equidium occurs when the Earth is aligned on its vertical axis, so that both the northern and southern hemispheres receive equal illumination. It marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn, or the end of winter and the beginning of spring.
