WhatsApp: night mode, autoplay and more functions expected in 2019 | Social networks

WhatsApp seeks to constantly improve the experience of its users. One of the latest releases was the sticker feature. As the new year approaches, expectations for the next configurations that can reach the messenger for Android and iPhone (iOS) phones increase. Speculations are not lacking, mainly in relation to functions that have already been caught in test by users of the Beta version of the application.

Among the possible novelties, some of the most awaited are the dark mode, shortcut for group calls and adding contacts by QR code. To learn more about the surprises expected from the chat, check out below the features that can reach the app in 2019.

1. Voice messages in "autoplay"

The expectation that the feature, which was launched in October in the iOS version, will finally reach users of the Android system next year. The functionality allows you to listen to the voice messages in sequence continuously, without having to "play" one audio at a time. That is, if a contact sends several consecutive audio files natively (that is, without using the forwarding feature), it is enough for the recipient to start the first conversation to listen to all the others that follow. The tool is exactly the same as the rival Telegram has been offering for some time.

The way it is called varies: dark mode, dark theme or night mode. What does it matter that the dark mode, as known in English, has become a trend and has been used by a number of apps. The design option that promises to be more comfortable for users' eyes and to reduce the power consumption of the device can be found in software such as Telegram, Twitter, YouTube, Google Maps and even Chrome and Windows.

In October, the website WABetaInfo, specialized in the messenger, released screenshots exclusive to the supposed stage of development of the dark mode in the iOS version of the app. In the image, you can see that the developers opted for a black background, dialog boxes and bars in dark gray and buttons in blue. Instagram, which, like WhatsApp, belongs to Facebook, already offers functionality. Therefore, the expectation is that the form of exhibition will also reach the chat program soon.

3. Shortcut for group calls

In December, the Android beta version of WhatsApp received an update that facilitates video or phone calls through groups. Within conversations with multiple people, a phone icon with the "+" symbol appeared. By tapping on it, the user can select which people in the group he wants to talk to and in what way (video or audio). There is still no information on when the feature reaches the final version of the messenger, but if the tests are successful, it is likely to be even in 2019. Apple smartphone users can now take advantage of the feature released this week for the operating system.

In November, the WABetaInfo website discovered the option of adding users using QR codes. The feature should work similarly to the Instagram name tag. Each user has their own code and, to add someone, just scan the coded symbol of the person with messenger. Immediately, the app fills in all the fields and the contact added to the catalog. The tool is not yet available for any operating system and is one of the most anticipated news for the coming year.

5. Previewing received files

The feature, which arrived on WhatsApp for iOS in September, allows you to preview images received by the messenger, without accessing the conversation. To do so, simply expand the notification, on the lock screen or in the cell's notification center, and check the content without the issuer knowing. In addition, it is possible to mark the messages as read in the notification bar itself. As it is already available for iPhone, the expectation is that the feature will arrive soon for the Android version of the application.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, published in August this year, WhatsApp will start displaying advertisements on Status. The tool allows the publication of photos, videos, GIFs and texts that remain in the air for only 24 hours, features similar to Instagram Stories and Snapchat Snaps. According to the North American vehicle, the information was provided by messenger officials.

In any case, it wouldn't be surprising if, in fact, the promise was fulfilled, since Facebook implemented a similar model of advertising ads on Instagram Stories in June. In addition, the company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, praised the strong support for the messenger resource during the F8 developer conference. According to the businessman, Status would have 450 million active users per day worldwide, against 300 million in Instagram stories.

Also according to sources in the newspaper, the ads will be powered by Facebook's native advertising system and "will help familiarize users with business" in the messenger. "We saw it working well on Instagram and we are learning a lot from it," said Matt Idema, WhatsApp's director of operations, quoted by the foreign newspaper.
