Apple finally opens its mouth: Here comes a new Mac Pro and also a new professional monitor [atualizado]

Apple introduced the current generation of Mac pro in 2013 with a lot of pomp, including Phil Schiller senior vice president of worldwide marketing joking with those who thought the company could no longer innovate.

Innovated, in fact. No one can say that the Mac Pro is not beautiful and distinctive for a professional desktop, but since that time many have criticized the fact that it has almost no capacity for expansion. Worse yet, if not even users could touch the machine, what about when Apple itself left it unchanged for more than three years?

Yesterday, Schiller met with some international bloggers / journalists (including BuzzFeed, Daring fireball and TechCrunch) in a Mac development lab inside Apple headquarters. In addition were Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering and John Ternus vice president of hardware engineering. The reason for the meeting was very unusual for the company: talk about the future of Mac Pro.

Starting with the bad news, we will not see the big news discussed there being released later this year. This may have been the reason Apple decided to speak early, considering the avalanche of criticism they have received for the "abandonment" of their professional line.

Mac Pro (2013)

But yes, Apple got real and realized that the current design of the Mac Pro failed and that the nature of such a machine requires it to have upgrade capabilities. In addition, the industry's own direction with respect to certain components built into the computer has hampered Ma's work, which has opted for two GPUs working in parallel rather than a single powerful one.

Schiller confirmed that Apple is working on a brand new Mac Pro and, along with it, also on a new professional monitor (dispelling rumors that she would have completely abandoned this market). Meanwhile, the company is giving this week a slight update of specs on the current line, increasing the number of Xeon CPU cores and the embedded AMD GPU model. Prices remain the same.

For 2017, Federighi further commented that we should see the arrival of iMacs including up to date configurations designed to pros but without giving details, of course. O Mac mini It was not the subject of discussion, but when questioned Schiller confined himself to saying that he is still part of the Mac line. According to him, the current sales division between laptops and desktops of 80/20.

It's very, very strange to see Apple doing this kind of ?early announcement,? but it needed to. Sadly, we will have to wait a long time before seeing these new projects come true, but cool that, once again in its history, the company had the courage to acknowledge that it was wrong.

As we speak, a slight update to Mac Pro specs is now available.

The entry model has gone from four to six cores and comes with two AMD FirePro D500 GPUs with 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM each; Already the top-tier has gone from six to eight cores and is equipped with two AMD FirePro D700 GPUs with 6GB of GDDR5 VRAM it is worth noting that the sturdier model, at least for now, is unavailable for purchase.

Everything else, including prices, remains exactly the same.
