WatchOS 4 shows that Apple is behind in Artificial Intelligence

Apple Watch can be the best selling smartwatch, however, not the prettiest or the smartest. During the official presentation of WWDC 2017, Apple's developer conference, it was very clear. Android Wear has not been the most functional smart watch software, however, but has always been based on Artificial Intelligence, once focused on Google Now cards, now on Google Assistant.

The site staff Wareable tested the beta version of WatchOS 4 and was able to test some of the news, including the display developed with focus on Siri, Apple's AI assistant. According to the website: "Apple has finally understood that Google Now is very practical and, despite having been optimizing the iPhone with similar functions for some time, the Siri display will bring these context-based updates to the watch screen."

God, Apple, Android Wear users have been using this feature since 2014!

As you can see in the video below, during the news presentation of WatchOS 4, Kevin Lynch, vice president of technology at Apple, says that now "Siri offers the information you need, when you need it." This was basically the slogan of Google Now at the time of its release and it is now being converted to Google Assistant.

Don't get me wrong, Siri's simply beautifully designed Apple Watch dial can even show pictures, which Android Wear doesn't. But design – both hardware and software – is Apple's area of ??expertise, but clearly artificial intelligence is not yet.

As you can see above, the new Siri will be able to offer a list of upcoming events and updates that Apple's AI Assistant believes to be interesting to users, information such as traffic, weather warnings, calendar events and more.

Opinion by Camila Rinaldi

Siri's application to Apple's smartwatches triggers a huge gap in AI.

In 2014, during Google I / O, David Singleton, at the time Director of Engineering for Android, offered some examples of how Google's mobile watch users could already use such functions. For those who don't remember, this was the fateful year of the Brazil World Cup (Germany 7 x 1 Brazil), and the situation built on the stage was the trip of one of the search giant's employees to Brazil. Thus, upon arrival at the Airport the Assistant would send the QR code of the boarding pass to the clock, as soon as the user arrived in the country the hotel reservation would appear on the smartwatch screen and so on.

Well, this is what Siri will be able to do in the next version of WatchOS.

Watching WWDC 2017 open after the main presentation of Google I / O 2017 makes us realize how late Apple is when it comes to Artificial Intelligence. Siri's application to Apple's smartwatches bridges the gap.

However, it is undeniable that Apple develops beautiful software, offers a very intuitive experience, but does not have the Google database to feed its Smart Assistant. Maybe that's why you opened your store for Google Assistant, because looking to the future, it wouldn't be interesting to lose users because of this AI shortage, right?

Finally, if you still have a question about the distance between Apple and Google in AI, watch the first minute and a half of the video below:
